Aaron Marcoux, the current Washburn County assistant district attorney, is advancing within the county. Gov. Tony Evers appointed him to the district attorney’s position on Friday.
Marcoux will now oversee the entire county’s criminal caseload. Washburn County’s district attorney position has been vacant since August, when former district attorney Angeline Winton resigned upon being appointed to the position of Washburn County circuit court judge.
Marcoux will finish Winton’s term and serve at least until January 2021. He has about a decade of experience in practicing law in northern Wisconsin, including serving as an assistant district attorney and public defender.
