MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Republicans are renewing their attempt to ban the use of aborted fetal tissue for research or any other purpose.

State Sen. Andre Jacque and Rep. Janel Brandtjen on Wednesday began circulating the latest bill, versions of which have failed in recent years amid opposition from the University of Wisconsin and medical and research workers.

Even if the proposal were to clear the Republican-controlled Legislature, it would be faced with a near-certain veto from Gov. Tony Evers, a Democrat. Similar bills did not make it out of committee last session.

The latest bill would also require doctors who perform abortions to arrange for final disposition of any fetal body parts. Those who violate any restriction in the bill would be guilty of a felony.
