As an undergraduate, Laura Callan took in an interest in how law related to economics.

“I thought law school would help me find a career at the intersection of law and economics,” she said.

And, in many ways, it did. Today, Callan is a partner at Stafford Rosenbaum in Madison, where she specializes in commercial and asset-based lending transactions. Her work includes drafting and negotiating the full gamut of loan documents.

A big feature of Callan’s approach to litigation is cost control. She recommends novel ways to resolve disputes and seeks settlement opportunities that are advantageous to her clients.

Callan also has a breadth of experience in representing quasi-governmental entities, including economic-development organizations throughout Wisconsin. Notably, she has been designated by the U.S. Small Business Administration as a 504 closing attorney, bringing an extensive knowledge of federal, state and municipal government-sponsored loan programs to Stafford Rosenbaum.

“Laura not only excels in her practice and serves as a leader in the profession, she provides an unmatched level of service to our firm,” said Christopher Hughes, managing partner at Stafford Rosenbaum. “Serving as Stafford Rosenbaum’s internal Ethics Counsel, Laura ensures that the highest degree of ethical and professional behavior is present in our practice. She plays a crucial role to the success of our firm and our commitment to our clients.”

Callan’s service extends beyond the law office. She has served as a member of the board of directors of the All City Swim/Dive League Inc. and as an assistant meet manager for the Seminole Pool Swim team. She also volunteers at the Wisconsin High School Mock Trial Tournament and the University of Wisconsin Law School’s Veterans Law Center.

“Volunteering is a great way to connect to a community and meet new people,” Callan said.

Hughes said that Callan sets an example for rising associates in the firm.

“Her career is one that demonstrates passion and excitement for a busy but ethics-driven field,” he said. “Laura Callan exemplifies all that traits that can make someone a high-quality attorney and offers guidance to colleagues and future lawyers to follow in her footsteps.”
