MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A former Vilas County district attorney has lost another court battle seeking to block the release of public records related to a closed investigation into him.
The state appeals court on Tuesday ruled against Albert Moustakis, who retired in 2016. The 3rd District Court of Appeals said Moustakis failed to show he had a clear legal right to have the records withheld. The court also said he failed to show that the state open records law is unconstitutional as it applies to him.
Moustakis previously lost a case before the Wisconsin Supreme Court that also sought to stop releasing the records.
The Lakeland Times newspaper in 2013 asked the state Department of Justice for records of any investigations into Moustakis. The department said no allegations against Moustakis were substantiated, but he still fought releasing the redacted records.
