Nancy Peterson knows a few things about moving parts and fixing problems. For the last 34 years, the veteran lawyer at Quarles & Brady has helped the firm’s business grow and established trust and rapport with clients of all kinds. Clients, as well as her colleagues at the firm, have come to count on Peterson’s expertise and attention to detail. To put it simply: Her achievements are an inspiration to many. Peterson is an environmental lawyer who always has her client’s long-term best interests in mind.

She was the first female partner in the firm’s energy, environment and natural-resources practice group and, during her career, has led teams of lawyers, engineers, scientists and contractors on sites throughout the country. For other clients, she has negotiated environmental provisions in real estate and corporate contracts in 14 states.

“I enjoy the challenges of developing strategy, persuading and building consensus, and targeting actions to reach objectives,” Peterson said.

“My client work, firm management and community roles provide great opportunities to make a difference in these ways. I am humbled and at the same time energized by the recognition of my contributions to legal practice and the community.”

Peterson is the chairperson of the Women’s Fund of Greater Milwaukee and is a board member of the Ice Age Trail Alliance and Early Music Now and has helped her firm become nationally recognized for its work for women, minority and LGBT attorneys.

“I can scarcely think of an individual with whom I have had the pleasure to work with who better exemplifies the qualities of outstanding leadership, vision, legal expertise and commitment to the community,” said her colleague, Lindsey Davis, in her nomination letter.
