Foley lawyer named to foundation board

Foley & Lardner recently announced that attorney Cynthia Rigsby has been named to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Rigsby, who earned her law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1998, is a partner at Foley. She counsels technology-based businesses on intellectual property and litigation matters.

Public interest firm promotes attorney

The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty recently announced that Libby Sobic will lead the firm’s education policy arm.

As director and legal counsel of education policy, Sobic will manage the K-12 education reform project, including analyzing legislation, providing legal and regulatory advice to school leaders and allies, authoring policy reports and engaging stakeholders.

Sobic, who earned her law degree from Marquette University Law School in 2016, was previously associate counsel for WILL.

Personal injury firm gets props

Milwaukee-based Hupy and Abraham was recently listed on the Milwaukee Business Journal’s 2018 Top Wisconsin Corporate Charitable Contributor List.

It’s the firm’s third consecutive year on the list, which is based on cash contributions made in 2017. The ranking is based on self-reported cash contributions made in 2017.

3 Husch Blackwell attorneys promoted to partner

Husch Blackwell recently promoted 25 attorneys to partner nationwide, including three attorneys in Wisconsin:

  • David Carr, who works in the firm’s Milwaukee office and handles complex commercial litigation matters involving real estate, development and construction;
  • Mary Beth Hughes, who works in the firm’s Milwaukee office and defends companies from a wide range of industries against workers’ compensation claims; and
  • Marci Kawski, who works in the Madison office and advises financial service providers on regulatory and litigation matters.

DeWitt adds three attorneys

DeWitt Ross & Stevens recently announced that it has added to its Minneapolis intellectual property practice.

The firm combined with intellectual property law firm Nikolai & Mersereau. That firm’s three attorneys — Thomas Nikolai, James Nikolai and Charles Mersereau — and three staff members have joined DeWitt’s Minneapolis office.

DeWitt has nearly 140 attorneys practicing in Madison and metropolitan Milwaukee, as well as Minneapolis.

Milwaukee IP lawyer joins Boyle Fredrickson

Attorney Billie Jean Smith recently joined Milwaukee-based intellectual-property law firm Boyle Fredrickson.

Before moving to Boyle Fredrickson, Smith spent more than 25 years at Michael Best & Friedrich’s Milwaukee office, where she chaired the firm’s intellectual property law department.

Attorneys get props from directory

Dozens of Wisconsin attorneys were recognized in the 2018 Wisconsin Super Lawyers and Rising Stars directories.

Super Lawyers is a rating service selects attorneys based on peer nominations and evaluations as well as independent research. The Super Lawyer designation is given to no more than 5 percent of the lawyers in a given state.

Milwaukee-based Hupy and Abraham recently announced that Managing Partner Attorney Jason Abraham was selected as a 2018 Wisconsin Super Lawyers list. Also, attorney Robert Domol was selected to the 2018 Wisconsin Rising Stars list.

Wausau-based Bremer & Trollop Law Offices recently announced that attorney Christine Bremer Muggli had been recognized by Wisconsin Super Lawyers Magazine as one of the Top 25 Women Wisconsin Super Lawyers. Bremer Muggli, who practices personal injury and consumer law, has earned the Super Lawyers distinction each year for more than a decade.

Fourteen lawyers at Milwaukee-based Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown were also recognized.

The following nine GRGB attorneys were designated Super Lawyers:

  • Joshua Gimbel
  • Michael Guerin

Attorneys Jason Luczak, Steven McGaver, Erin Strohbehn, Russell Karnes and Max Stephenson were recognized as Rising Stars.

DeWitt Ross & Stevens also recently announced that 18 of its attorneys were listed in the Wisconsin Super Lawyers and Rising Stars publications.

Thirteen of the firm’s attorneys were named Super Lawyers and six of its attorneys were recognized as Rising Stars.
