Jodi Anderson had just finished secretarial school when an opening appeared in the patent department at Michael Best & Friedrich. She joined the firm in 1979.

Since then, she has risen through the ranks to become the “go-to member” of the firm’s intellectual property group.

As intellectual property administrator, Anderson helped establish the firm’s annuity department and handles everything to do with maintenance and annuity fees for more than 80 of its clients. She helps with all of its U.S. and international patent and trademark prosecution, dealing with applications filed in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and international patent offices.

In addition, Anderson responds to actions and letters issued by the USPTO and international patent offices and is responsible for preparing declarations and property documents. She also handles communications and correspondence with clients and global business associates, seeking to manage and maintain international patent filings and related matters.

“I’m most impressed by Jodi’s commitment to the firm and our clients,” said Alan Cheslock, a partner who regularly works with Anderson on client projects. “Jodi is committed to doing the best possible work for our clients, and she has done that day to day for decades.”

Anderson said she most appreciates being able to work on projects for the firm as well as the friendships she has developed over the past four decades. She was modest when asked how she felt about being honored as an Unsung Hero.

“It’s really nice. I’m not big on being in the spotlight, but it’s nice to be acknowledged for the work that you’ve done,” she said.

Anderson’s colleagues credit her for having “a kind and compassionate demeanor even when dealing with challenging and urgent projects.”

Outside Michael Best, Anderson is involved with fundraising for people involved in combatting the disease ALS. To that end, she freely gives of her time and resources to the Wisconsin chapter of the ALS Association.
