MILWAUKEE (AP) — An inmate has pleaded guilty to federal charges that he mailed threats to a Jewish Community Center in suburban Milwaukee.

The U.S. Department of Justice says 33-year-old Chadwick Grubbs pleaded guilty on Tuesday. Grubbs pleaded guilty to two counts of mailing threatening communications and one count of threatening to injure and destroy property by fire and an explosive.

Prosecutors say Grubbs sent threatening letters three times to the Whitefish Bay center in May, when he was an inmate at the Winnebago County Jail. Sheriff officials became aware of the threats when the letters were returned undelivered.

The government says information presented during the plea hearing showed that Grubbs threatened in the letters to use firearms to cause “maximum carnage” and threatened to use explosives to destroy the center.

Sentencing in his case is pending.
