MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir is promising to meet with all nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Vukmir made the promise on Tuesday as confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh were set to begin.
Vukmir’s position is a contrast with that of her opponent, Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin. She did not meet with Kavanaugh after President Donald Trump announced him as his selection in July.
Baldwin instead announced her opposition to Kavanaugh, citing concerns about his positions on health care and abortion rights. Baldwin said then that Kavanaugh would “turn back the clock on a woman’s constitutional right and freedom to make her own health care choices.”
Vukmir says Tuesday that “Baldwin tells you she’s in your corner, but she refused to perform a basic function of her job.”
