MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A retired state appeals court judge who ran for the Wisconsin Supreme Court says he never endorsed a current candidate for the state’s highest court, even though his name appeared on her website as a backer.
Retired Judge Edward Brunner says he was “shocked” to see his name showing up on the website of Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Rebecca Dallet among a list of judges who had endorsed her. Brunner says he never gave his permission and he’s “solidly behind” Dallet’s challenger, the Madison attorney Tim Burns.
Dallet and Burns are both trying to capture liberal supporters in their run for the Supreme Court against the conservative candidate, Sauk County Judge Michael Screnock.
Dallet’s campaign manager, Jessica Lovejoy, removed Brunner’s name from the website Thursday and apologized for any confusion.
Brunner lost to Pat Roggensack in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race held in 2003.
