Milwaukee-based Hupy and Abraham will be pledging $25,000 to the Illinois Innocence Project.

The firm announced Wednesday that the gift will be paid over five years to the project, which is based at the University of Illinois at Springfield.

The Illinois Innocence Project, which is part of a network of similar programs across the nation, dedicates its work to freeing people who have been wrongfully convicted. The project reviews more than 300 requests from Illinois inmates each year. Its staff includes lawyers as well as undergraduate and law students. The project has exonerated 10 people.
