RHINELANDER, Wis. (AP) — An Oneida County judge has denied a motion to reduce the sentence of a teen convicted of killing her mother and stepfather in 2015.
Ashlee Martinson, 19, appeared by phone from the Taycheedah Correctional Institution on Wednesday. Her attorney, Mark Schoenfeldt, argued Martinson’s 23-year sentence was too long, especially considering the years of physical and mental abuse she had endured.
WAOW -TV reports Judge Michael Bloom says Martinson still had a choice to kill her parents.
She had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree intentional homicide in the stabbing death of Jennifer Ayers and the shooting death of Thomas Ayers at the family’s rural Rhinelander home.
