A hearing on whether a former Mequon attorney’s license should be reinstated is scheduled for November.

In 2007, the Wisconsin Supreme Court suspended the license of Patrick Cooper, who then practiced workers’ compensation law in Mequon, for three years. The suspension was the result of 33 counts of misconduct, including converting client money, lying to clients and depositing money he was supposed to be holding in trust into his personal account.

Cooper had attempted to get reinstated in 2010, but the justices did not grant his request.

In 2013, the justices retroactively suspended Cooper’s license over 42 counts of misconduct, including seven counts of failing to communicate with a client, nine counts of failing to deliver files to clients or successor counsel and one count of practicing while his license was suspended. The two-year suspension was tacked on to the end of his previous suspension.

Cooper asked the court in March to reinstate his license.

A public hearing on Cooper’s reinstatement petition has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Nov. 8 at the Mezzanine Level of The Offices of Brown & Jones, Court Reporters, 735 N. Water St., Milwaukee.

Interested parties may appear at the hearing and speak for or against Cooper’s reinstatement.

The OLR is represented by the retained counsel Richard Mozinski of Mozinski & Cashman, Manitowoc. Cooper is representing himself.

The referee in the case, Jonathan Goodman, will issue a recommendation in the matter after the hearing. The Wisconsin Supreme Court will review that recommendation and issue a final decision.
