Mequon lawyer wants OLR’s charges dismissed or private reprimand

A Mequon lawyer facing allegations of misconduct wants the charges either dismissed or the level of discipline imposed to be no more than a private reprimand should he be found to have committed misconduct.

The allegations stem from a complaint filed in June charging Vladimir Gorokhovsky of Gorokhovsky Law Office with two counts of misconduct stemming from three cases in which the State Public Defender’s Office had appointed him to represent a criminal defendant in Milwaukee. The OLR alleges Gorokhovsky lied to the criminal defendant in order to intimidate him into accepting a plea deal and lying to Milwaukee County Judge Jeffrey Kremers during the plea hearing.

The OLR is asking the Wisconsin Supreme Court to publicly reprimand Gorokhovsky.

In an answer filed July 19, Gorokhovsky denied that he had committed the two charges of misconduct and contended as an affirmative defense, that attorney-client privilege prevented him from properly answering Kremers during the plea hearing.

Gorokhovsky also asked that the charges be dismissed and that if the court does find he committed misconduct, that the level of discipline imposed be no more than a private reprimand, instead of a public one. Private reprimands and public reprimands are written warnings. However, private reprimands are confidential while public reprimands are public records.

Gorokhovsky is representing himself in the disciplinary case. The OLR is represented by its assistant litigation counsel, Sheryl St. Ores.
