GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Attorneys for a man accused of killing a Ledgeview woman say there’s evidence her boyfriend was the killer.
Lawyers for 39-year-old George Burch contend in a motion Friday the boyfriend had motive and opportunity to kill 31-year-old Nicole VanderHeyden last May. The boyfriend was arrested but released two weeks later, when investigators said he was no longer a suspect. Police arrested Burch a few months later.
Burch’s attorneys say VanderHeyden and her boyfriend were out drinking and were seen fighting the night she died. She later parted with the boyfriend and connected with Burch. The lawyers claim the boyfriend killed her after Burch drove her home. Her body was found in a farm field.
It’s up to the judge whether Burch can present that story during his trial in October.
