MARSHFIELD, Wis. (AP) — A homeless man who police say was living in the closet at a Marshfield hospital has been charged with trespassing and several other counts.

WSAW-TV reports police say the 41-year-old man was arrested last week after patients complained that he was walking the halls day and night. Authorities say Aaron Hofkes told investigators he had been living in a closet at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital because he didn’t have a home.

Prosecutors also charged Hofkes with possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia, as well as bail jumping. Police say Hofkes had a syringe with heroin residue in his pocket when he was arrested. It’s not clear how long Hofkes had been living at the hospital. He’s free on $1,000 cash bond.

His public defender, Michael Scarantino, declined to comment on the case.
