Attorneys from Habush, DeWitt to face off for State Bar president

headshotsAttorneys from two Madison firms will be squaring off for the bar’s top leadership position.

The Wisconsin State Bar’s nomination committee announced the candidates for various State Bar offices, including president and treasurer.

Attorneys John Axelrod and Christopher Rogers will be vying for the position of State Bar president.

Axelrod is a litigator at DeWitt Ross & Stevens who earned his law degree at the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1968.

Rogers is a personal-injury lawyer at Habush Habush & Rottier who earned his law degree at the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1995.

Also, John Danner of Harrold Scrobell & Danner in Minocqua and Dan Rinzel of Redmond Peyton Braswell LLP in Mount Vernorn, Va., were nominated to vie to serve a two-year term as bar treasurer.

The committee also chose candidates for the State Bar’s representative on the Judicial Council, a body that advises the Wisconsin Supreme Court and Legislature on changes to the state court system’s procedures.

This year’s candidates for the post are Bill Gleisner of Pitman, Kalkhoff, Sicula & Dentice in Milwaukee, and Andrew Chevrez, a lawyer out of Milwaukee.

The bar will also be holding elections for its Board of Governors. Those wishing to run for a governor position, which has a two-year term, must complete a petition signed by 10 active members of the bar by March 1.

Ballots will be mailed no later than April 14 and must be returned by April 28.
