MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Attorneys who won a ruling that Wisconsin’s legislative boundaries are unconstitutional say it’s too soon to think about a new round of elections.
A panel of three federal judges ruled Monday that the boundaries Republicans drew up in 2011 discriminate against Democrats. The judges have given the group of voters who challenged the boundaries and state attorneys 45 days to submit ideas on what to do next.
Attorneys for the voters said during a conference call with reporters on Tuesday they would talk with their clients about possible solutions but didn’t discuss anything specific. One of the attorneys, Peter Earle, says it’s premature to discuss the prospect of another round of elections using new boundaries.
State attorneys say they’ll appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court.
