State hosting court interpreter training in Madison

The Director of State Courts office is accepting applications for court interpreter training in Madison.

The training will be held Oct. 1. and Oct 2 at the Pyle Center, 702 Langdon St. The sessions are for those interested in learning the basics of court interpreting and give attendees and overview of the needs and expectations of the court.

The training costs $195, including lunch and materials. There will be two sessions running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the two days of the training.

The deadline to apply is Friday.

Participants who complete the orientation, achieve minimum test scores and other requirements will be placed on a public roster of interpreters.

While the courts most often request Spanish interpreters, the state courts office is also looking for Cantonese, Mandarin, French, Arabic, Hmong, Karen, Lao, Punjabi, Vietnamese and Burmese interpreters.

Scholarships may be available for those languages.

The office is also looking for people already interpreting in legal and administrative proceedings and in other fields.
