MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in an open-records case being fought by Attorney General Brad Schimel.
Schimel, a Republican, does not want to release to the public law-enforcement training videos that were made when he was working as the Waukesha County district attorney. The Wisconsin Democratic Party sued in 2014 to compel the release of the videos, which were made in 2009 and 2013.
Democrats allege that Schimel makes inappropriate comments in the videos.
The state Justice Department has tried to block the release, saying making the videos public would reveal prosecutors’ strategies and violate victim privacy.
A state appeals court in October ruled that the videos must be made public, which led to Schimel’s appeal to the state Supreme Court.
