MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Madison’s police chief says federal, county and local investigators have uncovered a credible threat to the life of one of his officers by an inmate who solicited a hit while in the Dane County Jail.
At a news conference Friday, Chief Mike Koval says the inmate actively took steps to have the officer killed. Koval says the inmate was in jail following a domestic disturbance to which the officer had responded.
Koval says the inmate transferred money to a third party for the hit and had information on the officer’s work schedule, assigned district, cell phone number and date of birth. He says another jail inmate tipped authorities about the conspiracy.
Police are recommending charges of conspiracy to commit homicide and conspiracy to commit perjury.
