A public defender running for a seat on the state Assembly is alleging that one of his opponents’ nomination papers doesn’t have enough signatures.
Edgar Lin, a Milwaukee public defender, is one of three candidates challenging state Rep. Leon Young to represent the 16th Assembly District. Brandy Bond and Stephen Jansen have also filed to run against Young.
Lin filed a challenge to Young’s nomination papers on Monday, according to a news release, alleging that Young, who has been a legislator for 24 years, originally submitted too many signatures — more than the 400 maximum — and that the state’s election oversight board should not count them as valid.
The soon-to-be-defunct Government Accountability Board’s last meeting is Friday, and it is expected to consider Lin’s challenge along with any others as well as finalize the August ballot. Follow @erikastrebel
