MADISON, Wis. — The Republican leader of the state Senate says the bipartisan choice to lead Wisconsin’s new Election Commission may be rejected by the GOP-controlled Senate.
Sen. Scott Fitzgerald tells the Wisconsin State Journal in a story published Thursday (http://tinyurl.com/jytwxtl ) that some Republican senators have concerns with placing Mike Haas at the head of the commission.
Fitzgerald says the concern stems from Haas being the head of the elections division at the Government Accountability Board, which was involved in the secret investigation of Gov. Scott Walker and conservative groups.
Haas disputes Fitzgerald’s claim that he intends to resign the post after the November presidential election.
The new bipartisan Elections Commission announced the pick of Haas last week as its chief administrator starting June 30.
