NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (AP) — Court records show a Neillsville mother driving the minivan that crashed and killed her two young daughters had previously been cited for failing to buckle the children in car seats.

Twenty-three-year-old Aurelia Perez Amador is charged with two counts of neglecting a child resulting in death for the April 2 crash that killed the two girls, ages 4 and 5. Investigators say the children were not restrained when Perez Amador lost control of the van on an icy road near Neillsville and struck a tree. She’s also charged with driving without a valid license.

WSAW-TV reports court records show Perez Amador had been cited in May 2014 for violating child safety requirements.

A judge has given her until June 9 to get an attorney.
