The prosecutor who launched two secret John Doe probes of Gov. Scott Walker’s associates and his recall campaign is running for a fourth term.

Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm announced his re-election bid Monday. The Democrat was elected Milwaukee County’s top prosecutor in 2006.

In a statement, Chisholm says his pledge is to keep Milwaukee safe and to reform the criminal justice system.

Chisholm has used the John Doe process at least twice against the Republican Walker. One probe focused on whether Walker’s aides engaged in illegal campaigning when he was Milwaukee County executive, and netted six convictions. The other looked into whether Walker’s 2012 gubernatorial recall campaign illegally coordinated with outside conservative groups. The Wisconsin Supreme Court halted that investigation last summer.
