MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee police say a man accused of killing a 17-year-old girl was seeking to eliminate witnesses in her boyfriend’s earlier shooting death.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/21yVQfB ) that 34-year-old Antonio M. Smith is charged with killing Breanna Eskridge and her boyfriend, Eddie Powe, on separate occasions in July. He’s also charged with directing a plot to murder another witness in Powe’s death.
Milwaukee police detective Jason Enk testified Thursday during a preliminary hearing that investigators were able to tie Smith to both homicides through two guns recovered at a storage locker.
Smith’s attorney entered a not guilty plea for Smith in Eskridge’s death. He’s set to return to court later this month.
A trial for the Powe homicide is set to begin in July.
