MADISON, Wis. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson says he is open to meeting with President Barack Obama’s nominee for the Supreme Court, but if they do get together there may not be much to talk about.

Johnson tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in a story published Thursday (http://tiny.cc/ui549x ) that Merrick Garland has not called and no one has tried to set up a meeting.

Johnson has been united with other Republican senators in opposing holding confirmation hearings on Garland, saying instead that the next president should be the one to make a nomination for the court vacancy caused by the death of Antonin Scalia.

But Johnson is joining with a small but growing number of other Republican senators who say they are at least willing to meet with Garland.
