GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A De Pere man accused of fatally shooting his friend while playing with a loaded handgun has been sentenced to more than 21 years in prison.
Twenty-two-year-old James Vandenack was sentenced Friday. He had pleaded no contest to first-degree reckless homicide in the death of 21-year-old Tyler Waldron.
According to a criminal complaint, Vandenack said he and Waldron were wrestling after a night of drinking when Vandenack picked up a gun and shot Waldron in the head. Vandenack told police he didn’t think there was a bullet in the chamber.
Vandenack apologized to Waldron’s family while in court Friday.
