OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — The attorney for the man accused in a Neenah motorcycle shop standoff has raised the issue of her client’s mental competency.

Brian Flatoff has not been charged in connection with the standoff, but faces several felonies for an incident that authorities say preceded the Eagle Nation Cycles hostage situation last weekend. An investigation into who fired the gunshot that killed a shop employee during the standoff continues.

WLUK-TV says Flatoff appeared by video conferencing in Winnebago County Circuit Court on Monday. Defense attorney Colleen Bradley says there may be an order for a competency exam in another case in which Flatoff is involved, so those results could be used.

The current felony charges against Flatoff accuse him of threatening a friend with a pistol. Prosecutors could file additional charges against Flatoff this week.
