BALSAM LAKE, Wis. (AP) — A trial for a Minnesota man accused of fatally stabbing a fisherman on the St. Croix River is set to begin this week in Wisconsin.

Twenty-year-old Levi Acre-Kendall of Cambridge, Minn., will head to trial Monday at the Polk County courthouse in Balsam Lake, Wis. Jurors from Chippewa County, north of Eau Claire, will be involved in the trial, which is expected to last two weeks.

Acre-Kendall is accused of stabbing 34-year-old Peter Kelly of St. Croix Falls, Wis., after an argument while fishing along the river in April.

Acre-Kendall has pleaded not guilty to first-degree reckless homicide. He claims self-defense and plans to testify in the case.

Jurors will decide whether Acre-Kendall’s use of force was justified after Kelly initiated physical contact.
