GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A Green Bay man accused of setting fire to his home and killing eight dogs has been ordered to stand trial.
Fifty-three-year-old Paul Phillips was charged last month with one count of arson and eight counts of animal mistreatment, causing death. He’s accused of setting three fires in his duplex Sept. 13 to kill himself and the dogs.
According to a criminal complaint, Phillips said he was being evicted and needed to get rid of his pets. The complaint says Phillips told authorities that the smoke killed the dogs and that he also intended to kill himself.
WLUK-TV reports that Phillips waived a preliminary hearing Thursday. He’s scheduled to return to court Dec. 14.
An email seeking comment was sent to his attorney early Friday.
