Gov. Scott Walker has announced two appointments that will fill positions on the Milwaukee County and Portage County circuit court benches.

Walker, according to a news release, has appointed Michelle Ackerman Havas, an assistant district attorney with the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office, to fill the position that was once held by Judge Rebecca Bradley in Milwaukee County Circuit Court. Bradley was appointed in May to the state’s District 1 Court of Appeals.

Havas has worked in the Children’s Court Center in Wauwatosa for about 12 years. She litigates cases involving children’s rights.

Havas graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1998. After graduation, she spent three years at Whyte Hirschboeck Dudeck SC before returning to the district attorney’s office in 2002.

Before starting her law career, Havas was a legal secretary and a probation and parole agent with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

Havas lives in Franklin with her husband, Tom, and their two sons.

Walker also on Monday appointed attorney Robert Shannon to fill a spot on the Portage County Circuit Court bench, according to the release. The position was previously held by Judge John Finn, who announced his retirement in May.

Shannon has spent almost 27 years in private practice. He was most recently a partner at Anderson, O’Brien, Bertz, Skrenes & Golla LLP, Stevens Point, according to Monday’s release. He practiced general litigation in criminal and administrative law early in his career, then focused on complex civil litigation in the state and federal courts. Shannon litigates insurance and products liability cases.

He earned his degree from Marquette University Law School in 1989 and lives in Stevens Point with his wife, Anne.
