GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — City officials in Green Bay have enacted a ban on flying drones at special events.

The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the ban on flying unmanned aerial vehicles at such events. Press-Gazette Media reports Green Bay is the first city in Wisconsin to have such an ordinance.

City Attorney James Mueller says the ban came out of a request by the Green Bay Packers for an ordinance that lets police regulate drone use at Lambeau Field.

The ban applies to special events in Green Bay, meaning events that interfere with street and sidewalk traffic or the normal use of public areas. The ordinance exempts public safety officials.

Those who want to fly drones can get permission from event organizers or the Federal Aviation Administration.
