BUTTERNUT, Wis. (AP) — A northern Wisconsin man has pleaded guilty to a charge in the death of his girlfriend’s 2-year-old child.
WDIO-TV reports 28-year-old Duane Amos Jr. of Butternut pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree reckless homicide. He was originally charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the child’s August 2014 death.
According to a criminal complaint, Amos brought the child to a Park Falls hospital and told staff the injuries were accidental. The child died a day later at another hospital.
Authorities say doctors contacted law enforcement after suspecting the child had been abused. A medical examiner found the child had bruising indicating strangulation, and head trauma that was consistent with violent shaking.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for November.
