BELOIT, Wis. (AP) — A 41-year-old Beloit man has pleaded guilty to running over and killing his ex-girlfriend in her driveway.
The Beloit Daily News reports Christopher Rutherford pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless homicide in the death of 47-year-old Sheila Rosenbaum in May of 2014.
According to the criminal complaint, Rutherford got into Rosenbaum’s van and began revving the engine while Rosenbaum blocked his way.
By this time, officers arrived and attempted to use a stun gun on Rutherford, but he sped out of the driveway, running over Rosenbaum.
Officers fired shots, wounding Rutherford. He later crashed the vehicle and spent about a month in the hospital recovering.
Other charges including homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and fleeing an officer resulting in death were dropped. Sentencing is Oct. 14.
