RACINE, Wis. (AP) — A Racine County man convicted of fatally shooting his longtime girlfriend has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Forty-nine-year-old Ryan King earlier pleaded no contest to first-degree reckless homicide in the death of Lucinda White. White was grazed by three bullets before King shot her in the head in the middle of the street in 2013.

The victim’s son was overcome with emotion in court Thursday. Timothy James sobbed as he told King that he had taken everything from him and his children.

King told the judge he can’t remember shooting White. He fled to Tennessee where police eventually tracked him down.

King was also given 10 years of supervision to follow his time in prison.
