BELOIT, Wis. (AP) — A Beloit man who pleaded guilty earlier this year to killing his father with a hammer has been sentenced to life in prison.
Thirty-one-year-old Peter Hemmy was sentenced Thursday on one count of intentional homicide. Authorities say he killed 58-year-old Bruce Hemmy last August.
The Beloit Daily News reports that Hemmy will be eligible for parole after serving 40 years in prison.
Hemmy went to police at 1:45 a.m. on Aug. 25 and told officers he had killed his father. According to the criminal complaint, he admitted to hitting his father three or four times with a hammer. Hemmy had said his parents were planning to move to an apartment without him.
