Milwaukee trial lawyer to lead State Bar board

A Milwaukee trial lawyer will be the next president-elect of the State Bar Board of Governors.

Francis Deisinger with Reinhard Boerner Van Deuren SC defeated Kevin Lyons of Davis & Kuelthau SC 2,290 to 2,106 votes, according to election results from the State Bar.

Deisinger’s term as president-elect begins July 1. He will serve as the bar’s president the following year, succeeding Ralph Cagle.

Also on Friday, Paul Swanson, of Steinhilber, Swanson, Mares, Marone & McDermott, Oshkosh, was elected treasurer. He defeated Timothy O’Brien of Bakke Norman SC  2,412-1,985.

Thomas Bertz of Anderson O’Brien of Bertz, Skrenes & Golla LLP, Stevens Point, won a three-year term as the State Bar’s Judicial Council appointee.  He defeated Joseph Russel of von Briesen & Roper SC, Milwaukee, 2,560-1,771. Bertz is chair of the Judicial Council. His term on the council ends in June.

Also, 18 governors were elected to serve two-year terms beginning July 1:
