The Association for Women Lawyers is accepting scholarship applications.

To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must be attending a Wisconsin law school in September, completed either the first or second year of law school, be in good academic standing and be a woman, according to a news release.

AWL offers two scholarships. Selection criteria for the AWL Foundation Scholarship include service to others, diversity, compelling financial need, academic achievement, unique life experience or circumstances and advancement of women in the profession.

The Virginia Pomeroy Scholarship is awarded in honor of an AWL past president and deputy state public defender. Applicants must show a special emphasis through experience, employment, class work or clinical programs in at least one of these areas: service to the vulnerable or disadvantages, civil rights law, appellate practice, public service, public policy and public interest law.

Applicants must submit a resume, law school transcript and cover letter that discusses how the applicants satisfy the criteria for the scholarship. Applications must be received by June 30. Applicants may submit their applications to the AWL Foundation Scholarship Committee at 3322 N. 92nd St., Milwaukee, WI 53222-3507 or to [email protected]. Transcripts may be mailed or scanned and emailed.

All applicants will receive a free, one-year membership in AWL.

Scholarship recipients will be notified on or after July 15. The checks will be presented to recipients at AWL’s annual meeting in September. Recipients will also receive a free ticket to AWL’s Judges Night in April 2016.

Each year the AWL Foundation, the charity arm of AWL, awards scholarships to students enrolled in Wisconsin law schools. The scholarships include proceeds from the specialty bar’s Annual Women Judges Night.
