WAUPACA, Wis. (AP) — A man accused of killing his 2-year-old stepson has changed his plea in Waupaca County Circuit Court.
Joseph Jackson is pleading not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect to the May 25 death. The 28-year-old Waupaca man is charged with first-degree reckless homicide and previously pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors say Jackson held the toddler face down on a bed to get him to stop crying. The child couldn’t breathe and died.
Jackson has been ordered to have a psychiatric exam. WLUK-TV reports Jackson entered a similar plea in another child abuse case. He’s accused of pushing another stepson to the ground and injuring him following an argument with his wife.
