Nathan DeLadurantey often takes on the big companies on behalf of clients who are trying to straighten out their credit histories.

“It’s all about helping people who want to move ahead on something — they usually are trying to get a house — but can’t because of some mistake on their credit report that they can’t get off,” said DeLadurantey, the managing partner of DeLadurantey Law Office LLC, Milwaukee. “The work itself is deeply satisfying, and I learn something new every day.”

The prevalence of automation in the credit industry sometimes makes it difficult for consumers to talk to a person when they discover an error on their report, he said. Other times, people don’t realize there is a mistake until they try to get financing for a car or home.

“It can be very intimidating when you’re trying to get a mortgage and the bank tells you no because of something you’re not responsible for,” DeLadurantey said. “The best feeling I have is when clients call and tell me they were able to close on their house. That means their problem has been resolved completely and their dream realized.”

DeLadurantey started his firm in 2008 and now has three other attorneys on staff. He said a financial climate in which it’s tougher than ever to secure financing has helped his firm grow.

“We really focus on the client as a person, and everyone has different concerns,” DeLadurantey said. “While working on bankruptcy cases, I saw a lot of clients were dealing with creditors who were using abusive tactics in trying to collect debt.”

DeLadurantey also works with the Eastern District Bankruptcy Court’s Mortgage Mediation Program, a confidential and voluntary process in which a homeowner and lender discuss mortgage modification. That work earned him the Judge Dale E. Ihlenfeldt Bankruptcy Award in 2013.

But DeLadurantey’s interest in helping others extends beyond clients, said Carl Rolsma, an attorney with Rolsma Law Firm SC, Janesville.

“I have personally benefited from his generous offer of his time in assisting me in my own bankruptcy practice,” Rolsma said. “He is very approachable and has gotten me out of many a jam with his wise counsel.”
