MILWAUKEE (AP) — A trial has begun for two felons charged in the shooting death of a Milwaukee man.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports 34-year-old Jarmel Chisem and 37-year-old Howard Davis are facing charges as repeat offenders. The men are charged with first-degree reckless homicide, first-degree recklessly endangering safety and being felons in possession of a firearm.

Authorities believe the men fatally shot 21-year-old Raymond Harris Jr. and wounded a 22-year-old man in June out of retaliation for shooting Davis the previous summer. But Chisem’s attorney argues police haven’t recovered the firearms used in the fatal shooting.

Davis’ attorney, Gregg Novack, suggests retaliatory violence was behind the recent fatal shooting of his client’s mother, 56-year-old Lennair Davis.

The trial for Chisem and Davis began Monday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court and wrapped up Wednesday afternoon.

Jurors are set to continue deliberating Thursday morning.
