Wisconsin is one of three states advancing in a national grant program.

According to a news release, Wisconsin, Virginia and Indiana were selected to Phase 5 of the National Institute for Correction’s Evidence-Based Decision Making Initiative, which aims to improve local criminal justice systems. The technical assistance grant program improves public safety, according to the release, by applying research in the criminal justice decision-making process.

Phase 5 builds on work done in Milwaukee and Eau Claire counties, which were selected in 2010 to participate in earlier phases of the initiative, according to the release.

A state team and six counties — Chippewa, La Crosse, Marathon, Outagamie, Rock and Waukesha — will now be added to the initiative.
