Dealing with the federal government can be a challenge for anyone.

Yet Sarah Ulrich, office manager/legal assistant for Madison-based Becker Law Office, does it on a daily basis.

“Things fluctuate out of your control, but you have to ride the wave and make adjustments accordingly,” Ulrich said. “I’m proud of our office and our ability to adapt and continue to represent our clients in a productive manner.”

Ulrich has worked for Becker, which handles Social Security disability claims, for more than 17 years since graduating from high school. Her position has evolved and includes overseeing human resources, day-to-day expenses, scheduling clients and many other responsibilities.

Being part of a firm that helps disabled people and those dealing with unfortunate circumstances makes her job fulfilling, Ulrich said.

“Hopefully at the end of our representation,” she said, “we have made a positive difference for most of our clients.”

Attorney Anne Hartwig said Ulrich is the “rock” of the six-person staff, which includes two attorneys.

“She performs all of the necessary tasks and goes the extra mile so as to ensure our survival and success,” Hartwig said. “She does all of these tasks with ease, confidence and, most of all, tact and compassion.”

Ulrich said her parents and grandparents were farmers and instilled in her a strong work ethic.

“I have always looked to them as a model of how I would like to conduct myself in the workforce,” she said. “It is very important to be dedicated to your job and put 100-percent effort towards all you do. I believe this is why I’ve maintained my position at Becker Law Office for over 17 years and gained the respect and trust of my employer.”
