SIREN, Wis. (AP) — The parents of a northwestern Wisconsin toddler who drowned after wandering away from home in 2012 have been sentenced.
Thomas Williams will spend five months in jail and three years on probation in the death of 3-year-old Reena Danish. Williams expressed remorse in a Burnett County courtroom Monday and told the judge he will have to live with the fact that he will never see his child again. Williams earlier reached a plea deal on felony neglect of a child resulting in death.
The girl’s mother, Jenna Danish, was given one year of probation after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor child neglect charge. KARE-TV says Danish did not address the judge.
Scores of volunteers helped search for the girl in August 2012. She was found in a canal not far from her home.
