A Duluth, Minn., attorney licensed to practice in Wisconsin has been suspended from practicing law for six months, according to a Wisconsin Supreme Court decision released Tuesday.

Louis Stockman was given the same discipline by the Minnesota Supreme Court in February 2013. The Minnesota court found that Stockman mishandled several lawsuits dating to 2006. He also was punished for practicing law while suspended for five months in 2012 for a different case, according to court filings.

The work was done when Stockman headed the firm Stockman Law Offices PA with fellow attorney Brian Fischer. That name was later changed to Injury Law.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court’s per curiam decision notes that Stockman never notified the Office of Lawyer Regulation of his Minnesota discipline, and never responded to any inquiries to show cause why he should not be sanctioned in Wisconsin.

In order to practice law again in Wisconsin, Stockman will have to petition the state Supreme Court to have his license reinstated.

Stockman graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minn., in 1993 and was admitted to practice in Wisconsin in 1999. He did not immediately return a message left at his office Tuesday.

Fischer, Stockman’s former law partner, was publicly reprimanded by Wisconsin’s court in August for his part in fumbling cases, as well as not supervising Stockman when Stockman was suspended in 2012.

Fischer has said he now runs a law practice with his wife.

Stockman also was admonished in 2009 for not consulting his client before making a settlement demand.
