Jury: State not liable in client pregnancy case

Listen to this articleMILWAUKEE (AP) — A federal jury has awarded $1,050,000 to a Milwaukee woman who was impregnated by her social worker, but says the state is not liable.
Theola Nealy had sought $15 million in damages.
The Journal Sentinel says the former social worker, Peter Nelsen, now works as a janitor and has few resources.
Nealy told the jury that Nelsen went to her Milwaukee home to investigate child maltreatment allegations in 2007. She said Nelsen later visited her unannounced and that she was afraid he would place her two children in foster care if she refused to have sex with him.
Nealy gave birth to Nelsen’s daughter in 2008. Nelson has full custody of the girl.
Nealy’s attorney alleged Nelson was acting in the scope of his employment, making the state liable.
