WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) — A Merrill woman accused of trying to hire someone to kill her boyfriend has been sentenced to more than three years in prison.

Thirty-three-year-old Jessica Strom of Merrill also was ordered to serve four years on extended supervision once she gets out of prison.

WAOW-TV reports Strom broke down in court Tuesday and said she was joking to the man whom she offered money and sex in exchange to kill her boyfriend.

Strom said she had nothing to gain from her boyfriend’s death — “only everything to lose.”

The judge also ordered Strom not have any contact with the alleged would-be victim. Strom will get credit for 184 days served.

Strom pleaded no contest in Marathon County to an amended charge of solicitation to commit first-degree intentional homicide.
