Menomonee Falls woman gets 30 months for tax, mail fraud

MILWAUKEE (AP) — A Milwaukee-area woman has been sentenced to 30 months in prison after pleading guilty to tax, mail and food stamp fraud.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports a federal judge also ordered 30-year-old Tiffiny Harden on Monday to pay $120,000 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Agriculture Department.

Court documents show the Menomonee Falls woman received more than $120,000 in refunds from about 35 fake tax returns filed in 2012. The U.S. Justice Department says she claimed false incomes, education credits and dependents for other taxpayers. Some victims say she offered to fill out their returns but they never heard back after providing personal information.

Prosecutors say she used the U.S. Postal Service to apply for food stamps and to send information to the IRS.
