WEST BEND, Wis. (AP) — A jury trial is starting for a 20-year-old charged with murdering a teenage girl and attacking a woman in Washington County.
WITI-TV reports Daniel Bartelt’s trial will begin Monday. He is charged with one count of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of 19-year-old Jessie Blodgett on July 15, 2013, in Hartford. He faces an attempted first-degree intentional homicide charge in an attack on a woman at a Richfield park three days earlier.
He’s also charged in that case with one count each of first-degree recklessly endangering safety and false imprisonment.
Bartelt submitted dual pleas in November of not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. His lawyer said the defense “had issues regarding his competency.”
He faces life in prison if convicted.
